Both Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter and environmental site Treehugger have written about the exhibition Sustainable Futures at the Design Museum in London. The exhibition is open until September 5th and asks the intriguing question: can design make a difference?
Sustainability and design are explored through five themes; cities, energy and economics, food, materiality and creative citizens. Each theme in the exhibition shows different ongoing projects that aim to raise awareness about the impact one makes on the world, and how to change it.
One of the projects shown is Plastiki, the catamaran made out of 12 500 recycled plastic bottles that just arrived in Sydney after 126 days at sea. Plastiki is a project aiming to raise awareness about re-thinking waste as a resource instead of just waste, and through smart design decrease our impact on the environment.
